Today I drove to work by flooded fields in a driving rain. We don't do things by halves in north Texas. The radio said that three inches of rain fell, but Lake Lavon only rose half a foot. It is still over eleven feet low. I'm reading a Swedish police procedural. Tomorrow I have a routine follow-up with my doctor.

I'm filled with delight at the idea of bald eagles, pear trees in bloom, a pinball machine, fully-lit, and
the notion of a stop action animation crafted lovingly by hand.

Well I guess I'm glad you're getting rain anyway. It's too bad when it comes so hard & heavy though, since so much of it just washes off downstream. Wait a sec, I just remembered: Texas IS downstream.

I've seen a record number (for me) of bald eagles this year. They're everywhere.

There's a pinball arcade in nearby Lyons that is full of twenty or thirty different machines. They have tournaments: http://www.lyonspinball.com/
Awesome. We wanted to move to Lyons when we moved away from the mountains, but the houses there are too expensive.

The rain was abundant and great, though flash floods did appear to a limited extent. I was always struck when we lived in southern California at how much of chapparal ecology was geared to drought, fire and mudslide. That pinball emporium looks grand. We have a nickle a play vintage video game place a few towns over, but I know of no similar pinball palace.

I have not seen a bald eagle since we visited Canada a few years back, but they are frequently seen at nearby wildlife places. Great birds!
