Today daily savings time ended. I woke up early.

I went to Weight Watchers at 8 a.m. I had gained a couple of pounds, which fits my pattern of losing strongly for a while and then hitting a plateau with gains or zero results. I am now just over 30 pounds lost since I began again at the end of March. I would like to lose 12 to 20 pounds more.

I went to the 9:30 service at the First United Methodist Church of Allen. The sermon today was
based on a passage from book attributed to the minor prophet Malachi, about tithing. This
sermon falls in close proximity to the pledge drive for the church. The handbell choir did a great job, and the gradual played during communion, to the accompaniment of what sounded like a harpsichord though I saw no harpsichod, was very nice.

On the drive to and from church in my new car, I enjoyed listening to the radio. I like Neil Sperry, who has a three hour call-in garden show. Today one man called in asking for help in choosing among three trees. Neil asked the man's priority among several choices. The man said "rapid growth". That is never the right thing to say to Neil. He always has a lecture about how trash trees grow fast but die quickly. I always want to point out to Neil that most people average roughly 7 years in a house, so fast growth is not a sinful desire--but on some level I probably agree with Neil, and think, deep down, we should go one better and plant walnut trees to enrich generations we will never live to meet. On the other hand, I love mimosa trees, which should be planted here, grow like weeds, and do not live long.

I walked today at Bethany Lakes Park and rode my bicycle on the Watters Creek Trail.

I'm totally envious of your cormorant pic. They never get that close here to get such a great shot.
