cayahoga snake, originally uploaded by gurdonark.

On my way to the airport, I stopped by Cayahoga Valley National Park in Ohio. I walked for an hour on a hike/bike trail which used to be a canal Tow Path. I saw a huge blue bird land on a tree, and wondered what exotic bird it might be. I soon saw it was a blue jay. The lovely snake in the photograph crossed my path.

I love seeing harmless snakes. I'm totally fascinated by them, which overrides most of my nervousness. I like to pretend that is "respect" for animals, the way I feel respect for water. The truth is that I respect water even more.

I like the harmless ones, too, particularly when they are very green.
