A Short Paragraph About You

An on-line friend from Goteburg sent me two samples of a Swedish instrument called a nyckelharpa. It's got a great sound--like a cross among a zither, a fiddle, a dulcimer and something indefinable. I'm using it to mine samples to slice, but I admire the samples as they stand now, unadorned.

Today marked another very busy day. I am tired.

The newspaper advised that this January is the most rainy since 1898. We do extremes well where I live. Other places are warmer, other places are colder, but we have compelling contrasts.

I like a meme that is going around the internet these days. I'm impressed, too, with the aplomb people bring to this meme.
Thus, I'm going to incorporate that meme into this post, and issue you an invitation:

I'd be delighted to write you a short paragraph about how cool you are, and what I like about you and your journal. There are but three rules:

a. you may not write back to deny any compliments paid;
b. you need not duplicate my feat in your journal;
c. you shall not turn inot a winged monkey.

I have a special place in my heart for you. I don't know what it is. We come from entirely different places, and we are not similar people. Yet there's something in your story to which I can always relate. Perhaps it's that you came from a really traditional family, and you've branched out to reject some of that tradition, but not the parts of it you consider real and valuable. I come from a family far less strict than yours, but where I come from, a certain way of living and being with a respect for tradition came with the territory.

I like that you're striving to be the best you can be at what you do, and I love your idealism. I envy your computer and web skills. I like that although you're not really "one of the boys", you like gamer-type things. I like to read about the trips you and A. take, and even the minutiae of the restaurants at which you eat. It's not some "intrigued spectator" thing, as you and I are virtually different generations. I take some comfort in life from knowing that there are people out there trying really hard and just flat out living the best they can.

I love that you sing in a singing group. It's just cool! I like that you and A. fly stunt kites, and take great trips, and are building a life together. You're just one of the good guys in life--self-doubts and setbacks and all. Of course you're attractive, which makes your pictures a rewarding view, but, frankly, that's a nice thing but very
secondary, because it's your spirit, more than your visage, that interests me.

I can't remember how we "friended", but I'm glad we did.
