Home for two hours, hearing done, exhausted, and yet unable to go to sleep. Airplanes have processed air,
cramped seating, and rather inventively ordinary food.
You'd think anyone who got off a plane would be ready for *days* of sleep, not hours. But I'm not ready to crash even yet. It's as though I need something to hold my interest--three episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, say, or a PG Wodehouse Jeeves book I haven't read, if one existed, which it doesn't. I read Blandings' Way on the plane, which is remarkably pretty good, and it surprises me that I enjoy it so much when I have not read Mr. Blandings' Dream House. Two big meetings and then to a family wedding back in Arkansas tomorrow. This life's for me.

Thankfully, I have the wonderful posts by all my many friends to console in my sleepless post-midnight hour.
Thank you, everyone!

But I do have AOL IM, and next insomnia we share, let's share it!

You know, I have IM too. It's easy to remember:

Asphalteden

Wouldn't it be odd to chat in real time?

Oh, I forgot!

I had a funny Janis Ian story. She a really big sci-fi freek. And she's done some work with a fairly accomplished writer, Mike Resnick. So she was at the last Worldcon in Philadelphia, as a guest, making all kinds of appearances.

She was at one of the dinners I attended, and hung out here and there at the convention. She seemed pretty nice, if you ask me. But extremely into sci-fi. We had Connie Willis appearing at our table to sign books, and Ian was first in line. Willis was late, due to a plane delay, and I was all alone with about 150 skiffy fans, trying to explain to them, "Connie will be here shortly, please be patient, I just heard from her, she's having a delay, anybody want a subscription?" So I conspiratorially said to Janis Ian, "If Connie doesn't get here quick, these folks are going to bum rush me, and I'll be completely smothered!"

So she said, in a totally "tough-shit, kid" way, "If Connie doesn't get here quick, I'm going to help them bum rush you."

Yipe!

I may be admitting to a schmaltzy soul, but I love that song "At Seventeen".
I was certainly an ugly duckling then, and if I did not become quite a beautiful swan, I certainly did become a respectable duck (grin). I did not know she was a sci fi fan. Great story!

My AOL IM is gurdonark. When I get back home, I will reset my settings so that you can "IM" me anytime you see me. During work hours I tend not to IM, but
during the rest of the day, it'd be fun to chat in real time!

Jenna recently turned me on to Buffy, after i giggled about the idea of the show for a few weeks. i don't think it's safe or normal, how much it affects both of us every weekday morning. if we slept in and missed Buffy altogether, it promises to be a dismal, pouty, dramatic day. if it's Buffy "buy one get one free" day (which is what she calls it when there are two back to back), well, those just promise to be the prettiest, most promising of days.
of course now they've suddenly gone back to showing the first season, right when i was REALLY getting into the story.

a coup

The highlight of this week was that the very first episode played on the cable. That show really had it right from day one.
Now SM Gellar is even at an age in which one need not feel guilty for finding her attractive--just a bit loopy and sillydaydreamish.

I love that this show has all the intricate internal history of
Babylon 5, but in general the demons are way cooler.

Next time you have a Buffy craving, but can't get ahold of the episodes, go here. Episode summaries, transcripts, even scores of photos depicting the action.... ~swoons for the site~

It's a wonderful thing. :)

live journal is great for the sleep impaired and i am one of them this early morning. why the dog needed to go out at 3 is beyond me but i could not go back to sleep. this is going to be a LAD, long ass day as i like to call them. i like your use of acronyms thru your posts.

speaking of which, what is an MCLE versus a CLE? hus is sleeping and i will probably forget to ask him anyway.

I hope you've gotten some rest now.

MCLE is just CLE, but some states add the word "Mandatory".
