shopping

Today I awoke with a scratchy throat. I love the way cough drops work. My wife and I went to a mall, only an hour after I pondered how I had not visited one this holiday season. She took me to a jewelry store, where she picked out her main Christmas gift. Then she took me to a Nordstrom's, where she picked out a subsidiary Christmas gift. It was a bit like shooting fish in a barrel, I suppose, though that image fails to appeal to me.I have been deeply weary from this sore throat since we began shopping.

We went to the Down Under Pub and Grub, where they brought me out little meat pies in tart tins. Then we went to Best Buy, where they had every un-picturesque electronic thing anyone could imagine, except the kind of "easy to use recording things" that I might enjoy.

We went to Staples, where I got the mailers for tomorrow's pleasingly material quantity of card and CD and such mailing. If you are like me, and often miss posts like the 2 "would you like a card" polls I've run, feel free to either scroll back one week or leave me an e mail, and you, too can prevent fires in your desolate forest of personal loneliness, with a bit of crackling tinder shipped your way. No need to reciprocate.

I won a nice game of on-line blitz chess against a 1500, using the Saemisch attack against the King's Indian. It's nice to see a flash of ability peer back out sometimes. I plan to have lots of new year resolutions this year, with getting good at chess up on the list.

I will work a little tonight, but right now I want to pause and just be weary for a moment.

My heavens! I've no doubt you're tired.

I asked for one gift from the B, and sent him an email with a link to the picture, and told him where he could find it. ;)

I don't think you made me sick. I think that dawn hike yesterday with only a light fleece on helped make me sick.

I have to admit there's something to be said for simply telling people what one wants for Christmas, especially if one's family members are rotten guessers; it does remove much of the joyful surprise from opening presents...but then also removes much of the unpleasant sort too.

You have stated my wife's philosophy in a nutshell.

Hope your scratchy throat doesn't turn into something nasty for Christmas. Keep at those cough drops!

Thank you, very much. I usually can shake these off, and I hope this time is no exception!

I think shopping together for her gift can be quite romantic. You are always assured she gets just what she wants. Although, at least in my case, we usually spend somewhat more when she makes jewelry selections than when I do. I feel that value and beauty should be interwoven in the pieces I select, whereas beauty and elegance alone are the essence of her selections. Of course, I am luckily a husband approved for solo jewelry selection, unlike some.

Next opportunity we should visit on the topic of easy to use recording things. I suspect a current digital audio player/recorder combined with a mid-level mic would be easy to use and save your creations into mp3 or other format for easy cd production or web posting. Plug it into the pc with supplied USB cable, copy the files over, done. Of course you can simply record directly to the PC, but the digital audio recorder would allow you to record at the lake or in the park or on your commute.

I agree that it's got good points to shop together. It's a couple/communal kind of thing.

I think we should talk together about sound. It's a close call whether to get a simple digi player recorder, or to spend a little more on a little digi studio. The question with the former is utility, with the latter ease of use.
Always the dilemma.
