A nice fellow posted something over in the hypnos.com forum about my CD, although arguably his kindness lost full impact when in the same thread he proceeded to post a diagram of a shark and an attorney joke. Soon after the message board post, the traffic to my latest eBay ad jumped. In addition, the auction bid jumped from 1 dollar to 1 dollar and 85 cents.
I deduce from this that the value of a good review is about 85 cents.

I worked so very hard today, and I have much more to do this week. I travel tomorrow night and much of next week. My wife and I went out to eat tonight, and I sat and felt stressed a bit by all the things I must do this Summer. Then I thought of challenges other people are facing right now, including my LJ friends. I sobered up a bit, calmed down a bit, and now I'm fine. It's so easy for me to take myself far too seriously.

I'm the Queen of taking myself too seriously. When I read that you have to travel, I get very romantic about it and think how wonderful but I know from Ken traveling for business that it is far from that. I wish you a very good trip. Don't forget us while you're away.

Thanks for the kind wishes. I will be thinking about y'all even as I prepare for my hearing in LA tomorrow afternoon.

i've come to the startling conclusion
that taking ourselves too seriously
can be hazardous to our health.
i don't mean you should never take yourself seriously.
some things are meant to be taken seriously
and sometimes we're meant to be silly.
the trick is to know when to do each one--
not an easy trick, either.
i believe if you take yourself too seriously
for too long
the only logical conclusion that you can come to
is that all is mierda.
and if you're silly all the time, of course
you just run around in circles.
possibly you may be known as a wheel, then, but so what?

Yes, I think it is a question of balance, and finding the right perspective.

'a question of balance'
sounds like an album title!
quite true, balance and perspective
are monumentally important.

Ha ha ha! Yes, Brenholts has a habit of doing stuff like that. His heart's in the right place though.

Bob, when I get a free moment this weekend (good luck, Brian), I'm want to do an official, unofficial [livejournal.com profile] ambient_review of your CD. Would you be insulted if I played it for laughs and gave it the 1950s lp liner notes treatment? I reckon it suits the material! Let me know ... I think I'd have a lot of fun going over the top with it.

I not only would not be insulted if you played the review for laughs and gave it the 50s liner notes treatment, I would be pleased. My whole approach in marketing thus far has been to stay on the sunny, silly side of life. I don't consider the album to be ambient, or even necessarily to be music, but at the same time I feel as though it does just what I set out for it to do. How many people can say that? So have at it, whether humorously or with derision :)!

You're probably making more per CD than many of the artists on major labels these days.
