gulls

I am puzzled by gulls. Our local variety is the ring-billed gull. They live in our area all year round. I see them most often in Winter. I read once that these gulls fly back and forth in a wide range. In prior years, they appear on our warm winter days. Then they go south on cold days.

This year the gulls stayed for the snow. When I drive to work I see gulls in the air. I wonder why they do not fly to Corpus Christi or Galveston. I don't have the same imaginings about mockingbirds or cardinals or chickadees, who all hunker down here in good order. But gulls are travelers. Why aren't they traveling?

To our north, a bit, at the Hagerman Wildlife Preserve, Franklin gulls appear and then disappear. I doubt they hang out in the snow.

The weather folks speak in absolutes lately. Tomorrow we have a 100 percent chance of snow. I like snow. I worry that too much of a good thing is too much. I would have thought ring-billed gulls would think the same, but gulls think otherwise. I see them wheeling over traffic lights in Garland. I wonder about them.
