I love the return of the migratory birds in Spring. Last night I walked in Papago park in Phoenix, and marveled at quail hopping among the cactus. I hear birdsong everywhere I go. I'm a bird lover, but not really a birder. I watch all sorts of birds, not always knowing their species names. I just like their intricacy and grace.

I also like to learn about my LJ friends, most of whom I think of as being their LJ names (which makes for pronunciation issues with some of the more intriguing names like [livejournal.com profile] deriasys). So I thought I'd celebrate birds--and my LJ readers--by coming up with a bird-brained poll in which I can learn more about folks on LJ and their favorite birds.

no actually I didn't know. My Spanish is as bad as my Swedish (which is non-existent). I just thought you had as much red wine as I did ;)

The chimp? That's the one out of the latest version of Planet of the Apes. A stinker of a movie but I did like the chimp. I put you on the friend's list as well. I don't care what kind of car you drive either :D

It was better being a chimp than a dog (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/2367681.stm) in space, at least you got to come back :/ ...then again, chimps didn't fair so well with NASA either, most of them got splattered on the ocean due to failing chutes. One actually got 'lost' and sunk. The few (or two?) that survived they actually gave over to animal experiments after they did 'their job'! I think it's better to be a movie space chimp than a real one.

I got this pic from a web site using google but that was a while ago so don't have the link. Just plug in 'Planet of the Apes' and a few sites with images will come up. I looked at the NASA site but their chimp photos all look really sad. I'm not kidding, in all the photos they look like they're on 'The Green Mile' or something. Maybe they figured what was to come. I think just use google and there will be some around. Did the Russians use chimps? I thought chimps were only used by the 'States but I could be wrong?

no, i think you're right
those chimps are smarter than we think
and i believe the Russians used dogs
then sent people
i wonder if any pictures of those dogs are wandering around out there?
i guess that should be my resolution of the year
to learn to use google
everyone i know on lj seems to love it

well, if you think I'm an 'angel then that's really nice but it's really not true.

Got a bit carried away with the metaphor q there : P
I think my more serious response might be the nightingale because a true voice will always soar - and also because of the fairy tale!

Looking forward to the series, Robert.

I like that bit about the nightingale!

I think I will try to use the birds as metaphors. It should be fun.

deriasys has two forms of pronunciation.
1)dur-eye-uh-sis
2)dare-e-uh-sis

I say the first, everyone else says the second.

Absolutely nothing. I was searching for a name that no one else had, so I tried to string together enough vowels and consonance to make something that resembled a word. All but the 'i' can be typed with the left hand. Weird huh?
