I felt that my journal, being burdened by the fact that I'm a little weary and down, needed a bit more of that good old featherweight content, so I meticulously drew up a little poll on the ideal two disparate musical artists to be selected to do the ideal cover song. I then drew a charming little intro to my poll up. I had all the requisites cites to Shania, Gwen, Sting, Boudleaux Bryant, "Rocky Top", and the Nazareth cover of "Love Hurts".

I pasted the poll into a text, and hit "post". The computer replied that it did not work. I made some mild alterations, and tried again. The computer reported it did not work. I kept trying and kept trying, and soon I found that I had posted it twice, rather than once. Then I went through the same process on deletion, being assured that neither version had succesfully deleted, and then noting that actually I'd managed to delete both versions.

Now I'm uncertain if my poll post still exists,or if it is in fact deleted. I do have a vague memory of Gwen Stefani shimmying to "Message in a Bottle". I think I'm going to pull out a kazoo, and hum "Love Hurts".

No question about it. I still have 2 kazoos to send out from my great kazoo mail out, but I'm waiting until my cold has subsided before I'm handling the kazoos :).

haha. I saw your poll. It was funny. I just couldn't think of an answer right away and was going to ponder. :D

You know, I hadn't yet thought of my answer, either! I'll have to re create the poll.

I love that idea of humming "I know it isn't true, I know it isn't true, love is just a lie, made to make you blue" into my personal
metal kazoo.

Boudleaux Bryant

I'm so impressed you know who he is! I love, love, LOVE this guy!

And didn't Gram Parsons - of all people - write Love Hurts?

Yikes. I guess I wasn't paying attention! The BRYANTS wrote that (don't forget Felice). How odd. I guess Gram Parsons just did it before Nazareth and I always assumed he wrote it. I always think of the Bryants as cool country stalwarts (Carl Smith did great versions of their songs in the 50's).

Now here's a puzzle. While most Bryants songs, such as "Rocky Top", "Dream a Little Dream", etc. get the dual credit, the only credits I've found for "Love Hurts" is Boudleaux. Of course, I haven't looked up the publisher or the copyright, and that may tell the full Bryant tale....

This song was recorded by so many people...Orbison, the Everly Brothers, Jim Capaldi (for whom it was a hit), Ronstadt, Nazareth, Parsons...so many folks...

The Bryants did so many things, but to me, "Love Hurts" is out of character for them, a bit, and such an amazing song.

I heard the strangest thing the other night - a sound I could not identify. Such things always grab my attention as it might be something in the house about to explode. I tracked it down to my daughter playing her gurdonark kazoo in the bed before going to sleep. Playing along with radio mind you. Freaky.

Nobody in my office spoke of Ms Stefani having been mesmerized moments earlier by Shania Twain.

I am glad your daughter is enjoying her kazoo. I play mine with some frequency, but I do not have good lung capacity for it. You'd think, never having smoked ANYTHING, I'd be better, but I suspect more exercise would help with this.

I've read a fair bit of anti-Shania material. I don't mind Shania, really, she seems harmless, reasonably attractive, and kinda old fashioned bubblegummy to me.
