The message boards are full of kids assessing and deciding among law schools. The assumptions out there are a bit overstated--what if I only get into Columbia, and not Harvard? What if I can only attend a 4th tier, is my career over before it begins? Folks don't realize how much individual results vary, and how much initiative or lack thereof, and, yes, circumstances in general, make such a difference.
I never knew that many lawyers who starved, nor that many
lawyers who felt they achieved satori through practicing law. I understand agonizing over one's future, but
we all ultimately play our cards, perhaps pray a bit,
and try to enjoy a diet soda now and again.
