If you could have any TINY wish by which you did a small good for someone other than yourself or a relative or close friend, what boon would you grant?

Miss America contestants, after all, get to wish for world peace. But if we think much smaller, what non-material gift would you give?

My tiny wish?

that the California woman I know who perpetually failed the bar examination passes it next try, and uses her law degree as she intends to do to help others.

for everyone on my LJ friends list.

in the last week one's was declared to have sustained more damage than it was worth; another was hit by very friendly twenty-year old; and a third, who is broke and endures a 2.5 hour commute, feels that hers is on its last legs.

a fourth friendslister posted tonight that she had a 440 degree spinout banging up her car as well.

As my car estimate on my fender bender came in yesterday, giving me the tools to approach the body shops, I feel that your wish has already started on its noble journey towards being granted :)

We'll call that one wish, and hope it comes true!

I wish I had the means to help a friend open up and share... I think sharing problems/fears/trials with someone who cares can help to lessen the load a little.

Yes, I really think this, too, and hope your friend can open up. It's interesting how individual people are in this arena.

I wish I could write forever. That is selfish, I realise, and not near my usual altruisms, but still, if I had my wish, I'd write endlessly and not be broke enough that I must work a job that strips my creative time and inspirations from me. I'd heal the world with what I wrote.

I will wish this for you, and also wish that in the interim until you make enough for this to happen, you ready yourself for interesting but not demanding jobs which keep your mind alive but leave you spare time to write.

That my 51 year old mother would be able to make enough money at her one job ot not have to work her second job (as a waitress with a bad back) on Sundays too.

What a great wish! I hope it is granted, and your mother gets to work just one job! I will omit how frightening it is to me that your *mother* is only 8 years older than I am.

That my neighbours stay free, and able to contribute to society in a meaningful way. They could go to jail for something they've done, which hasn't impacted negatively on anyone but them, that I can see, and I think that would be a waste of taxpayers' money as well as all the talents, skills, grey matter and compassion they have to offer. Put them on community service but don't put them away.

I hope they dodge jail, too, and reshelve library books and take meals to shut ins instead.

That it would rain, and thus bring an end to the severe drought being experienced in Australia (and help out with the current Sydney bushfires as well). Water is something we take for granted until it's gone...

I've lived through the LA drought, and even some minor droughts back in Arkansas. They are no fun. But when the rains do return, the flowers are grand! I hope your wish is abundantly granted.

Sydney weather is a lot like Los Angeles', with cyclical drought a big part of the mix. I hope that you get rain all over Australia soon. I hope that special flowers grow when you do.

I wish that the doctors would find the reason my mother became paralyzed in February. A once vibrant, vital woman has been reduced to expending all her energy - just to move from point A to point B.

For companionship for the lonely - at least one day a month. Awfully general, but I'm tired of watching older friends stay home.

I'd wish that all people could find true contentment and joy; that they'd be happy with themselves as people. I think that could clear up a lot of the problems in the world.

Kudos to you, Robert, for getting us all to think unselfishly, and for empowering us by validating our wishes and making them somehow more likely to come true. Along the way, you gave me, at least, a smile or two.

Has this assisted you in your quest for a spiritually, personally meaningful Christmas?

Thanks. Yes, I think that focusing on little, achievable things is very good for me. I always am a bit quixotic, and I'm starting to think I need to stop daydreaming and actually tilt a few manageable windmills once in a while.
