After work I saw robins--dozens and dozens, alighting on a tree, perched in the waning afternoon blue-sky crispness.

A group of women played on the playground equipment in Heritage Park. An Eritrean-American woman on the radio spoke about hiking the Appalachian Trail.

I read 30 pages of "The Patch". The birder expression for binoculars--"bins"--seems unduly prosaic.

I daydream about the desert.

Work is full of challenges, which I enjoy.

Breakfast: Kix cereal and skim milk. Lunch: three soft chicken tacos. Dinner: a chicken breast, a bit of whole-wheat rotini and a salad. Dessert: angel food cake with Miracle Whip and strawberries.

I'm watching an episode of the BBC series "Vera" and thinking about mysteries.

We enjoyed Vera, and we note how we're driven to watch the British crime dramas. Also note how many prime detectives on these shows are women.

I am reminded of a British crime drama I wanted to watch but never did, with Helen Mirren. Do you know what it was? I could google it, but then I wouldn't have an excuse to say hi!

Prime Suspect. But I had to google it. And I don't think we've seen it! But it's in the queue now.

I like a lot of those British crime dramas. When we visited Scotland a couple of years back, I was intrigued how many crime dramas there were--and also how some of the ones that don't export are very dark indeed.

If I were a birder, I would never use "bins".

I might use it satirically, but I cannot imagine taking a lovely word like binoculars and turning it into bins.

A friend recently told me about Vera and we watched our first episode last night. I like her.

I've heard bins called "glass" too - that sounds better.

Yes, glass is much better!

Robins are my favourite small bird.

UK Robins are really handsome little birds! Our American Robins are a different species--a thrush more kin to your Blackbird than to your Robin. When I visited Scotland year before last, I was struck by how much the Blackbird's actions were like an American Robin,

I got to see a few great birds in Scotland--but I did not get to see a Robin. I wish that I had.
