I've now finished half of my nanowrimo.org novel, some 25,000some odd words in 3 days. I had a stray thought that the novel isn't going anywhere, but then I banished the thought and kept on writing it anyway. The folks on the nanowrimo Dallas forum have been fun to read and keep up with, by and large. I'm not trying to "win any races" by drafting so quickly--I just know that I want to avoid procrastination and let flow happen while flow is there to be, well, flowed.

We hiked the Spring Creek Trail today, and the Fall leaves made me so happy. It was a cloudy, cool but not cold, mildly rainy day. A friendly Chihuahua dog greeted us at one part of the trail.

I did a fun mail art project today--nothing amazing, but I did stretch an artistic muscle or two (dear ray johnson: send epsom salts). Tomorrow is work, more work, and then more work again. I am up for it. Tomorrow night it's back to the novel. I wondered how I would handle the problem of dialogue. Short answer--use the same narrative voice as this journal uses. Wordy, but wordy is not all bad, when you're trying to get 50,000 in one month.

Now I must rest, though. I think I earned it.

I must admit that I took one nanowrimo theme very much to heart--quantity, and not quality.

I offer you sincere congratulations, tinged with envy.

Signed, Mr. 1,832 words, counting scraps.

Thanks, but nothing to be envious of, here. It's not exactly scintillating reading :)

That is awesome! I've been rooting for you since you were going so fast on it. I'm ahead of schedule...8,030, and still unsure of where the story's going. But it's getting written!

I joined nervousness.org today, but I'm still kind of unsure how it all works. Still, it looks like fun.

Congrats on your 8300! You're really on track.
What is your nervousness handle, and I'll make you an offer for an easy exchange, and you can see a bit of how it works!

MandyR. Thanks...It's a bit overwhelming, but I can't wait to get started. I just want to make sure I do everything correctly.

I don't remember who said it before, but now I have to agree. You really are Batman, aren't you? ; )

Will you be making your novel available to your legions of fans at all (or at least to those of us who read and love your journal)? I'm certainly curious to see one of these nanowrimo things, and I think yours would be a great read. : )

I said it :-) And he IS Batman. At this rate he can finish 5 novels by Nov. 30th!!!

I have wondered if I could write a non-fiction work on law careers in January using the same mechanism--write quickly, have fun, don't worry.

I'm concerned that I may be more like the Joker, only without the interesting evil side.

I have made my personal pledge to myself to self-publish this if I exceed the 50,000 words, so the issue of its availability will be a large part dependent on whether I make the goal. Things look good right now for it! :)

More like the Green Lantern, I think

You're awesome G.! I can't even journal regularly, much less write a novel... I was somewhat surprised to see you chose the Sci-Fi genre, and so am doubly eager to see the results. Can't wait to read it!

Thanks! I am having so much fun. Although I am in the genre of sci fi, the actual novel is proving to be my typical pontification, albeit pontification circa 2300 AD. I am eager to get this one done and edited, as I've really enjoyed making myself write a bad novel.

I didn't even realize that there were local lounges on the forums!! Thanks for opening up this door for me. The NYC forum has a great thread about good places to write in the City, which is perfect because it's getting a little too cold to write outside in parks.

So far I've just done my work computer and my home computer, but as my home computer is a laptop, I should go buy a hot chocolate and look literary at the coffee shop by the grocery store :)

Doin' it in public

I'd love you to record the results of such an excursion here.
