In the old days, when one had a moment at lunch hour, one could only read a book or newspaper, play an imaginary chess game, or simply daydream.

Now, with an extra few moments, I can place the winning bid on a plastic didjeridoo and post a message over at hypnos.com asking about good instruction books for beginners.

A didjeridoo can't be hard to learn, for someone who already knows how to play music on electric football fields.

A book on self-hypnosis? Damn, I bought one once and I think I gave it away. Robert, are you trying to hypnotize yourself? or others? I think this might be very scary.

LOL. The Hypnos Forum is an ambient music bulletin board, where things like synthesizers, theremins and didjeridoo get the immense respect that they deserve. I don't see myself as the hypnotist type, although it might be fun, now that I think about it.

I very curious about the didjeridoo. Make sure and tell me if how it works; is it a reeded thing or do you have to buzz your lips like with a trumpet.

I figure if you can do the kazoo, you can do the 'doo.

We have all enjoyed our kazoos by the way. Right up there with the whoopee cushion.

My rough understanding of the didj is that it's a bit like the autoharp--one can play a bit with very little training, but the truly subtle work requires extensive practice. I'm a great autoharpist when it comes to belting out the chords to "Greensleeves", but not so good, i.e., no good at all, when it comes to Applachian picking technique.

I have the deepest respect for the truly musical, but I like things like kazoos that democratize music.
Kazoos are part of a family of instruments called mirlitons. I was just thinking today that I should switch to "all kazoos" and cut an album about Merliton the Wizard--sort of like Yes and Uriah Heep, for kazoos.

If you can give someone the Bronx cheer, you can didjeridoo no problem. Great fun to play, even better to annoy neighbors with.

Hubby and I are gonna start a didjeridoo/bagpipe duo. Once he buys bagpipes, that is. We expect the cops to show up immediately after. :)

Bagpipes and didjs do share that "from afar impressive, close up, call the police" sound that makes them distinctive. I'm glad to hear that all I need are Bronx cheer skills...I'll bet I have those.
