milkweed blooms, originally uploaded by gurdonark.

Friday night I went to the Addison FenCon sci fi convention. My friend John Anealio was the featured musician for the convention. His set was very good--acoustic guitar songs in fun arrangements with sci fi lyrics. We ate BBQ at Spring Creek BBQ afterward. Saturday morning I walked Beatrice, and saw two different kinds of woodpeckers. I took pictures of a stylish great egret later that afternoon at Russell Creek Park. In between I ate kolaches.Saturday afternoon I walked in a lot of heat at Sister Grove Park. I saw red-shouldered hawks and crows. Saturday night I watched on television as my favorite sports team played badly yet again. The milkweed bloomed again this year. Today bees and wasps abounded.

Spectacular blooms. I had to google "milkweed" because these look nothing like what I always called milkweed. Turns out that a name for yours is "Butterfly Weed" which is in the milkweed family. I'd never noticed the flowering of "my" milkweed, just the big pods, and the "milk" that would flow of you broke the stems, and those wispy seedlings that we called "wishes" as they floated away on the breeze.
