I am bemused by the fact that I want to post on livejournal how I made so many posts and comments yesterday on LiveJournal. I've never done a diary before; I wonder if I'm one of those people who will ultimately have a paper diary, which sets forth raisin bran consumption and length of daily walks.
But then again, perhaps I can put it on Livejournal.

I've not yet used the "private" journal function, but I may have to start. I wish that was because I have posts of great excite and moment. You know, "my editor called, but said this must be *strictly confidential*. The advance will be $ 30,000! Now I can afford to stay in a nicer hotel in Brugges!" Instead, it's just because I have frequent posts. [See posts of 6/4/02]. I really liked learning about "altered books" at [personal profile] moderngypsy's website yesterday. It's nice when
a vague notion I have about something is largely correct, but also when filling in the details is
fun. Now, I'm going to ponder the imponderables--like how to convince [profile] gregwest98 to bring his family down from Oklahoma this summer to go to theme parks and tourist attractions to which neither he nor I would ever go but for the fact that he has children.
I was tempted to report on the nice appellate win I got on a procedural issue in the Arizona Court of Appeals, but then I realized that a diary of wins (but never losses) would be rather self-adulatory.

I will ultimately post less, but right now posting is important to me. I think that I will have to review more journals, to avoid deluging folks with too many comments now. I've gotten out of the random explorations which made the early days of LJ fun.
Perhaps it's time to go LJ surfing again. I am always excited by what I find here, whether it's what's happening in Canberra, great photos of art or textures,
once and future novels, collegiate crises, ambient music, art and artlessness, or just plain day to day living. But it's a wide world out there, and not all of it is in languages I don't speak. I am an explorer,
one hyperlink at a time....

It will only cost you dinner and a promise *not* to mention a trip to the local theme park. I'd rather be horsewhipped than head to one of those in July or August in Texas. Maybe a water park...

now you're talking!

I thought this morning how I'm kinda a hypocrite because I kinda like theme parks and yet I disparaged them. I'd much rather take you guys to
the best little "nobody goes there" fishing and hiking place in Collin County or to the Fort Worth Botanical Garden or Dinosaur Feet State Park or you get the idea....

thanks!

Mars Tokyo says post more, not less. And as for the *Private* function-- 90% of my entries are private.

90% private...now that would be interesting.

what is interesting to me, besides you, is that i have over 15 years of paper journals on a shelf nearby.

when i arrived at this place a few years ago where words were no longer so necessary and my artwork expressed/processed/resolved so much of what i must have been writing about, i slowed down from journaling everyday to eventually nothing at all.

now this format appears and it is striking in it's public nature and private possibilities

turn the counter off

Did I say "I plan to quit?". I meant to say "I plan to post"! (grin). Now if only I could use the less than and greater than sign without lj thinking it's an lj command!

I was reading my journal from scratch the other day,
and I noticed that in my early entries I never worried about
whether or if I had comments, how many times I posted, or
the quality of the entries. I just logged in what I had to say.
I think that the interactive part of LJ is great, but the
self-revelatory part is also important.

15 years of paper journals would be fun to have. Getting to a point where one's art can replace them would be even better.
I agree that this format has a blend of both, and an absence of either. It's an interesting social construct, as somebody or other's userbio said.

I did an half an autobio reflections book at 22. I wonder how close to that I could come now.

But you are right--it's time to turn the counters off.

I've been mostly watching wildflowers thus far, but we did put in some black-eyed susans, and will put in marigolds soon. The pansies and snaps are past their time, but the time is almost ripe for the hot summery things.

at least once a year i am tempted to burn them all

an aries by birth and a natural pyro to boot, burning things is exhilerating

but then a friend witll say, "you need to write a book" and there's so much information in those volumes

once set aflame a self-portrait, with 5 friends as witness, and i felt so free of the burden i set out to release. kinda wished i had video taped it but the magic was in the moment anyway

when the journals (ie. my journey to this point) begin to fell burdensome, i fantasize a large bonfire.....

i do know an old woman who did just that at about 80

don't know if i can wait that long

If I read it, it would lose its inner sanctity.

Don't burn those journals. Send them to me, and I'll find artists who can alter them into great art...I learned about this altered book things lately, and surely someone could do it.

Or time capsule them....for 2222.

I changed my mind. Much as I hate to see books burned, this bonfire idea is kinda fun!

I know you'll do the right thing with your work in your time in your way, and sorry if I intruded with
advice.
