"Two roads diverged in a wood and I -- I took the one
less traveled by, and that has made all the difference"--Robert Frost

I thought about roads not taken this weekend, which, for me, is a usual bit of Mittyness. Sometimes I feel that I've often taken the road more travelled, while driving a rather strangely out of sync automobile. There are so many great lines using the road metaphor, and as I travel this Thursday night I'll undoubtedly be living Chrissie Hynde's tag about how being "out on the road is my private cul de sac". This week I've got so many things to do that I don't know quite how I'll get them all done--but I will. Does that make me a road warrior? I liked that when I lived in Mesquite, Texas, the nearby area had a dirt track race place called "The Devil's Bowl". Although I've always wondered why any bowl-shaped natural place must be "the devil's bowl" instead of, say, "philosopher's circle", there's something comforting about being devil-bowl-adjacent. It's as though authentic life is being raced, only a short distance away, and if I can't quite go there, at least I can hear the engines revving. On the other hand, I hear that race goes in circles.
