We adopted Sparrow today.
He's a 19-pound young dog whose fur features both labrador-black and an unidentified alien artifact shade of brown. The rescue, Lost Paws Rescue of Texas, advised us that they brought him up from Mission, a city near the Mexican border. He's a charming fellow. The rescue already taught him to use the doggy door. The rescue thinks he is half-black-lab, half terrier.
The rescue said he is a year old and will not get any larger. The veterinarian says he is closer to five months old, which would mean he will double his weight before adulthood. Time will tell. Right now he looks like a black lab with brown fur about the size of a large Rat Terrier.
We picked him up at Petsmart in Frisco. A nice woman named Angela brought him in her van. She explained he had been living in foster care with six other dogs.
Today he got a new collar and harness, a walk in the park, a stuffed lamb, and a lot of sunshine on a warm north Texas day.
I took the morning off to get the adoption done and settle him in, and then went to work.
I found Sparrow via petfinder.com.
Right now he is sleeping beside me as I type on a new doggy bed.
He has shown us flashes of personality even as the first days overwhelms him a bit. He is going to be sweet, but not silent. He loves toddlers. He lacks love for large dogs. Oddly, he loved watching the parakeets in Petsmart.
The rescue named him Sparrow. We believe he should keep the name, though he does not know his name yet.
I am very happy that we have a new friend.
