panhandle sojourn
Nov. 30th, 2018 09:34 pmWednesday proved a busy day. In the evening, I went to sleep at 9:30 p.m.
Thursday I got up at 3:45 a.m. I caught a 6 a.m. Southwest Flight to Lubbock. When I arrived, there were no taxis waiting at the airport. A nice man called a man named Mingo who drove a Ram pick-up truck. He took me to the Cast Iron Grill, where I ate scrambled eggs and fruit. The waitperson called me sweetheart.
I walked from the Cast Iron Grill downtown. I figured out the location for my afternoon meeting. Then I walked to the library. House Finches hunted seeds in a nearby tree. When the library opened, I found a nice place to work. I worked on my computer. I took an hour break to step outside for a long telephone conference. At lunch, I walked over to a place called Lee's, which offered home-cooking. I had a great meal there of baked BBQ chicken, collard greens, and black-eyed peas with fairly mild jalapeno peppers embedded in them. The Texas toast came a bit late. The waitperson called me sweetheart.
My meeting downtown in the afternoon was in the Mahon federal building, which was about a mile's walk from the Mahon library. I called Mingo's number. Ernest told me that Mingo was gone home for the day, but Edward was twelve minutes away. I sat on a green park bench near the County courthouse and waited to Edward.
At the small but serviceable Lubbock airport, I ate a meal of chicken tenders. On the plane home, I watched the Dallas Cowboys upset the New Orleans Saints. The game ended soon after I got home. I got to see the game in effect using the gamecast play-by-play feature at ESPN.com, the television on the Southwest flight, the radio in my car, and then the television at home.
During lunch today I walked in Breckinridge Park. I spent a lot of time looking at a small American Goldfinch and at two American Kestrels. I like the element of chance that affects what I see when I walk. After work, I walked in Schell Park in Plano as it got dark.
Tonight we ate at Rockfish Grill. The place was busy. We had to wait to be waited upon. But then our food came quickly. A storm blew in.
I enjoyed my grilled Texas redfish.
The storm knocked out our cable reception. To be more precise, the National Weather Service announcement seems to knock out Channel 11. Twice the screen came on with the letters Fedora 10 Cambridge. Fedora 10 was released in 2008, and has been obsolete since the end of 2009. But it popped up on my television twice.
I am glad to have some free time this weekend.
