Wood Ducks

Today I spoke with someone who is in the hospital but on the mend. That person told me of another person I know in a different hospital, seriously ill. At day's end, I heard of a relative who may have had an episode of illness, though the facts are yet to be tied down. An on-line friend took a turn for the worse. This has been quite a short week.

At lunch I walked in Breckinridge Park. Near the creek, I saw two ducks startle. They did not quack, as mallards do.  They whistled, as Wood Ducks do. Sure enough I saw soon after they landed that they were a pair of lovely Wood Ducks. Though I usually see Wood Ducks each year, I rarely see many.

The weather warmed today. I stopped by Car Care Central to make a new Saturday appointment, as the engine light remained on even after repairs last month. When we were in Los Angeles, I learned that Joe of Morningside Auto, a great mechanic, had retired. He put down his wrench after a great career.

Breakfast: kix and skim milk
Lunch: buffet pizza, broccoli and carrots
Dinner: chicken soup and a turkey sandwich
