Today felt like kite weather. Warm enough, but very windy. I like to fly kites. I prefer the little plastic delta-wing kites that cost roughly a dollar. I used to live near a school when I lived in Mesquite, Texas twenty some-odd years ago. I liked that almost every day permitted kites to fly--even the seemingly windless Summer days. I have not flown a kite in over a year. I never flew the fancy ones--I like the simplicity of simple kites.

When I was a kid, periodicals like the Weekly Reader and primary books always featured box kites. I found them interesting but difficult to fly. I grew up flying the traditional diagonal kite. I remember flying a sheet kite when I was a kid. Sheet kites are easy to get up in almost any wind. But they lack the same burst of straining fun of a diagonal kite.

I watched more Puppy Bowl than Super Bowl last night. Then I read a few pages of the science fiction novel I am reading. I woke up at 4:45 a.m. and made and ate instant oatmeal. Then I fell asleep until 8 a.m.
