I landed yesterday at 5:15 a.m. or so, drove home by 6:15 a.m., fell asleep by
7, woke at 8:45 a.m. just in time for my 9:00 a.m. conference call, made it to the office at 10 a.m., and had a productive work day. During lunch I saw birds
at Breckinridge Park---barn swallows and a scissor-tailed flycatcher.

Last night I watched the Douglas Sirk movie "Magnificent Obsession" and the Douglas Sirk 1959 remake of "Imitation of Life". The remake of the latter was about as enjoyable as the Claudette Colbert original. Both films are remarkable for their time, even though each is a melodrama laced with Hollywood plot devices.

The weather now is not only hot during the day, but very warm and a bit muggy at night. August is arriving right on time. I have a lot of work to get done today.

scissor-tailed flycatcher in bethany lakes park

The temperature today was 100 degrees. My brother gallantly agreed to give me a ride to Arkansas tomorrow to see my father. We are celebrating my wonderful father's 80th birthday. I had intended to drive myself, but I felt ready to relax a bit after the work week this week with its redeye flight.

I went to Bethany Lakes Park today after work. The temperature was over 100 degrees. I saw a green heron, a snowy egret and a scissortail flycatcher.

I was a bit grateful, by the way, that we chose Kauai (low: 72, high 81) over our initial first choice, Kalispell, when it turned out that Kalispell was in a 90 degree+ heat wave during our vacation week.
