washita

Thursday and Friday I was in Los Angeles for business. Saturday my young friend and I went up to Durant, Oklahoma to visit Fort Washita. Fort Washita operated from 1842 to 1865, for the purpose of protecting native Americans forced to migrate to Oklahoma from the plains native Americans who lived there already. A surprising amount of the ruins were still in place, and some structures still in full use. This was a function of the limestone used. We also saw an ammonite fossil on a riverbank (my young friend found it). We saw a huge raptor, but I could not tell if it was an eagle or a very huge hawk. We stopped at the Hastings in Sherman on the way back to use the wi-fi connection. I drank a peppermint hot tea.

Saturday night my wife and I went to see "Cloud Atlas", which we enjoyed. We also dined at City Taco, which served these little Mexico City style soft tacos.

Sunday I went to church at Suncreek United Methodist Church. I took a walk at the Heard Natural Science Center. The weather was very warm--in the upper 70s in December. I also walked at Allen Station Park, where I saw a mockingbird and a flock of house finches. Sunday night I watched the Dallas Cowboys win a game.
