I love the David Bowie song which wonders if there is "Life on Mars", although I love even better believing that life exists on Mars, in efficient, economic packages of two or three cells a creature. As a young man I read assiduously the Edgar Rice Burroughs Barsoom series, about this fellow named John Carter who somehow teleported from Civil-War-era Earth to Mars. Mars, it turns out, is a lot like Tarzana, California--but all the ways in which I was going to compare the entertainment industry to the green men of the tundra suddenly seem too predictable to recite.

Today the keyword in Garland, Texas USA is "rain". I wonder about Martian rain.

I love rain, and thus this past week or two I must be a man filled with joy.

I saw a kestrel on a telephone wire the other day.
