"THEN you reduce religion to a common Friendship? A common Friendship--Who talks of a common Friendship? There is no such thing in the world. On earth no word is more sublime. Friendship is the nearest thing we know to what religion is. God is love. And to make religion akin to Friendship is simply to give it the highest expression conceivable by man"--Henry Drummond

"Sanctity is in character and not in moods; Divinity in our own plain calm humanity, and in no mystic rapture of the soul".
--Henry Drummond

An autumn bloom of flowers enlivens the landscape, while the leaves, which fell in the heat, have a new-green "second wind" in the fading aftermath of our light September rains.

I am reading about Alain White, who published a book of chess problems by a great problematist, in 1905. Although its sales were satisfactory, he realized that the price of the 476 page book was such that shut-ins and folks with only a few books could not afford it.
He therefore began to self-publish a "Christmas Series" of chess problems, over some thirty one years. I like the idea of one who publishes thirty one xmasses of published problems for people who seek inexpensive diversions.

I love seafood. I hate to contribute to overfishing.

Fortunately, the Long Beach Aquarium publishes a pdf "seafood watch card", to help one know
which fish are okay to order and which to avoid.

The webpage for the information is at:
