Today I went to Austin for a meeting. On the plane on the way down, I read a rock magazine in which all the artists seemed to have been influenced by all the artists that we listened to when I was 19. It was the classic Yogi Berra deja vu all over again. Austin is the kind of airport in which a local singer plays for incoming visitors and outgoing visitors right there at the airport, so that if one has not exhausted one's sense of airport delight at Auntie Annie's Pretzels, then one can take in some Texana music.

The grizzled man at the mike today played "Norwegian Wood", and I thought to myself how this was, in the Austin airport,a bit analogous to the way that the Nassau Bahamas airport has a Trinidad and Tobago steel drum band, charming, cool yet somewhat asynchronous, but isn't it good, Norwegian wood?

I wrote in myself as a candidate on my US Chess Federation Executive Board ballot, as I realized that I am the person who most embodies my own point of view. I expect to receive a grand total of one vote. I got my FICS blitz chess rating up to 1499. I read about hummngbirds in Arizona. I wonder if I could attract a cardinal with saffron seed.
