The bad thing about waking at 7:20 when one meant to wake at 5:00 is that one has roughly 2 hours 20 minutes more sleep, but only at the expense of that luxurious morning free time.

I find myself lately hitting the button to turn off the alarm, then cruising back into sleep. I am typically an early riser, so sleeping past seven is an alarming thing.

I'm getting quite busy at work, which is a good, busy thing. Soon I must begin catching up my Mandatory Continuing Legal Education courses, watching those videos of lawyers talking about lawyer stuff.
I always learn things from those videos, but the phrase "signal to noise ratio" runs through my head as I think about them.

I'm fantasizing about driving up to Caprock Canyons, and riding that 65 mile bicycle "rail trail" through the high plains. I love October, because our weather here is largely perfect for anything.

I wrote my first few drafts of this post with various spins on tonight's presidential candidate debate. I started with my "gee, both guys are good debaters" to my lawyerly "debate points I could award". I went on to my "longing for social and fiscal pragmatic moderation", and then redrafted yet again into my customary "monetarism and me" spiel. I complimented both men, and damned both by faint praise.

Then I tried something else. I used my "block" function to "block" my entire political paragraph. Then I hit the "delete" key.

During the debate, we ate heated up frozen pizza. We watched, enrapt, for ninety minutes.

After the debate, we watched Yes perform its 35th Anniversary Concert on PBS. I loved and love progressive rock, although Yes was not my favorite of those bands. I did like the bluesy version of "Roundabout", and the way that Jon Anderson can still hit most of the high notes.

Right now, though, I'm thinking about home-made chocolate chip cookies, and how good they tasted when they first came out of the oven, bubbling hot on a cookie sheet. I had a happy childhood.
