Today after lunch, I drove to Spring Creek Preserve, the wooded creekland park near my office. I had walking shoes with me, and the weather was a sunny 70ish degrees. The way into the woods is now entirely green, when just forty five days ago it was bare and wintry. I paused to watch a woodpecker on a tree just beside the trail, with a red and black head, and a thick, pecking beak. Two snapping turtles did not pause, but ran into the creek the moment I came near. I saw a huge tiger swallowtail butterfly, all yellow and black wings, one of the first of the season. I love this kind of weather, and this kind of nature walk.
