I had to work late, which is to say, I should be working all weekend, but I worked late last night so that we could take the holiday off. My wife picked me up at my office, and we were off. We hit Highway 66 to get to Rockwall "behind the traffic", missing the heavy traffic exiting Dallas, and then jumped onto Interstate 30. It's about a 4 1/2 hour drive, from the prairie transition zone near Dallas to the light woodlands of northeast Texas into the full-bore piney woods of south Arkansas.
We stopped at one of those Atlantis-civilization-could-be-hidden-here truck stops, where I got a copy of Best of Gordon Lightfoot, Springsteen's The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle, and, of all things, Yes' Fragile, each for 6 dollars. Truckers still remember the 70s. The Gordo cassette was a sharp disappointment, as it was a best of album with none of his best hits on it, and we got involved in a long, pleasant conversation which caused us to turn down the Springsteen before we got to "Rosalita", even though, in my opinion, "Rosalita" is one of the key reasons to live (or a key reason not to be an accountant, which may be the same thing). My hope is that we go "Roundabout" on the drive home.
Today is Thanksgiving, and I am ready for turkey
