In the first book they totally ruined the "suspect" character AND they manufactured a lynch mob that wasn't in the books. In Red Bones they CHANGED THE MURDERER for no reason I could fathom. Both times it yanked the film version out of the measured, small community, "island time", island isolation, interconnectedness and dependency on one another that the books portray. After that we quit watching, but not reading.
