My writing progress remains steady but measured and far behind a successful pace. I am only at 4800+ words rather than the 11,000+ words that would keep me on track for 50,000 this month.

I went to Heritage Park in Sachse at lunch on Friday. I saw a loggerhead shrike. This small bird is mockingbird-colored but half mockingbird-sized. It has a bandit's mask and an unlikely but fierce thick predator's beak. We are never all that we seem to be.
The shrike let me stand nearby and snap photos until it flew to the ground to snare a ladybug.

We ate Thai food last night and got a good night's sleep.
