A Short Paragraph About You

An on-line friend from Goteburg sent me two samples of a Swedish instrument called a nyckelharpa. It's got a great sound--like a cross among a zither, a fiddle, a dulcimer and something indefinable. I'm using it to mine samples to slice, but I admire the samples as they stand now, unadorned.

Today marked another very busy day. I am tired.

The newspaper advised that this January is the most rainy since 1898. We do extremes well where I live. Other places are warmer, other places are colder, but we have compelling contrasts.

I like a meme that is going around the internet these days. I'm impressed, too, with the aplomb people bring to this meme.
Thus, I'm going to incorporate that meme into this post, and issue you an invitation:

I'd be delighted to write you a short paragraph about how cool you are, and what I like about you and your journal. There are but three rules:

a. you may not write back to deny any compliments paid;
b. you need not duplicate my feat in your journal;
c. you shall not turn inot a winged monkey.

I reserve the right to:

a. write a long paragraph, or more than one
b. wax effusively
c. go off on tangents
d. give unexpected praise

As you know, I like to start these things with a silly word in reply.

If you are interested, could you reply--

"All about me"

All About Me?

There are a great number of things I like about you. I like your intensity, and your discpline in pursuit of a goal. I like that you have a pragmatic side, so that you are not merely lost in daydreams. I like that you try to define and live by your principles. I like that you spend a great deal of time on self-education---you're one of the most avid autodidacts I know. I like your interest in languages and in history. You always have a good book or three going, and you don't get bogged down on "inside baseball", but try instead to get a world-view from your reading.

I like that you focus on being compassionate in the things that you do. You really do try to figure out what is the right thing to do in each situation. I am not sure that you achieve it each time--who does?, but you really try to do so.

I like that you're a great conversationalist, who enjoys a wide-ranging discussion. I like that you're open to learning, and to expanding your creative expression.
I like that you try new things, whether recording coyotes on your cell phone or flying to places you've never been to fulfill an idea, notion or hope.

I like that you're aware of the things in life you'd like to change, and that you focus lately on how to avoid boxing yourself in so far as to make your life unliveable. I sometimes think you define yourself into a kind of pickle, but I never worry too much about you in the long run, because I think you're incredibly intelligent and can learn. Your sense of the primacy of your own ideas about things makes it better for you to learn on your own, sometimes, even if sometimes this means you learn "the hard way" of experience.

I like that you focus on achieving serenity in your life. I like to read about the way you cook for yourself or seek out relaxing and calming things to do. I like that you've got the right sorts of reticences and the right kinds of boldnesses.

I like that you have a good sense of humour, and that you write with a keen observer's eye. I like that you pursue painting and other creative endeavors.

I like that you have a good head for business and financial independence, and my hope for you is that you utilize both to pursue some new career paths--you're not made for the conventional ways, but I suspect there is a way consistent with who you are that will get you to a more sure fiscal situation.

I like that you appreciate nice things but don't live in a sense of lack and regret. I appreciate that you make the best of things even when things are not the best. I like that you build yourself spaces to inhabit when life has perhaps not delivered as much security for you as it might have done.

I enjoy reading your posts, even though you and I do not always see the same realities in the same ways. I like that you write with a simple yet intellectual bent, and that you're seeking out truth where you can find it.

I think your recent photo series is great. It's very revelatory and really presents you in a good light--not just the images, but the whole concept and execution.

I like your flickr pictures, and your nature photography.
It all ties back to your very good "eye" for such things.

I like that I think you're going to find ways to make things work better for you. I suspect it will take some changes in approach for you, but one of your virtues is that you have an immense capability to learn. My guess is that life will treat you a bit better in the next five years than in the past five, and I wish you as much happiness as anyone could wish for anyone.

I like that you're clever and capable, kind and earnest,
cautious and unfettered, traditonal and unorthodox.

You're a really cool person.
