Suits me.

I work in a building by a shopping center. Today at lunch I stopped in Macy's and Dillard's. Neither store had the ability to help me acquire business attire. I am trapped by a 1980s idea of clothing acquisition. In that era nicer department stores tried to compete with mens' stores for dress suit business. Now things work differently or do not work at all. It does give me a new quest. Part of me hopes to find the perfect suit store. But part of me thinks this should all be done easily on line. On the other hand I have not gone to the local men's suit chain nor the local small towns. Small town suit stores have a go to meeting vibe I like.

We ran into the same thing when looking for a suit for engineer -- it's like the dept stores have just given up. We ended up, much against our will, at Men's Wearhouse, and I have to say, the service there was professional and attentive.

I haven't been to a Men's Warehouse type store in years,
because for years I avoided them. I'd done the "nice chains" before, and the "expensive stores" before, and the major department store chains before, and the small town home-owned places. I never liked the "expensive" places because the premium for the suit exceeded the increase in quality.

I used to think that the ideal was the 350 dollar suit. An 800 dollar suit was more pricey than the increase in quality justified. The 250 dollar suit was not obtainable in the right fabric and look. But the 350 dollar suit
was doable, professional and yet not too-too. At Penney's, the 350 suit would sometimes go on sale for much less.

But now it looks like the world is divided into 150 dollar lesser suits and 800-1200 dollar custom jobs. I may end up at Men's Warehouse in the long run myself.

If someone set up a Zappo's type website that let one enter
coat size, waist size, inseam size and fabric choices,
and then sold good suited separates, that site would get rich overnight.
