I woke early, ate my cocoa cereal and skim milk, and caught the 7 a.m. train to downtown Dallas. I arrived in plenty of time for my 8 a.m. duty as a high school mock trial judge. This was the fourth round of the competition. I was one of three judges at a trial between two accomplished teams. I wondered if the teams knew that the presiding judge of our volunteers was a former actual judge. All three judges picked the same winning team. I enjoyed the close competition and the courtesy and intelligence of these kids. I thought to myself how it was biologically, if not socially, possible for any of these kids to be my grandchild. But I did not feel old.

I left at 11 to take the West End train. I rode one stop to St. Paul, where I ate at Subway for a ham sandwich and baked chips. I then walked to the Dallas Museum of Art. There I went to the American Art section. The pieces that held my interest today were:

John White Alexander, "Miss Dorothy Quincy Roosevelt"
Jerry Bywaters, "Share Cropper"
Edward Hopper, "Lighthouse Hill"
Anne Whitney, "Lady Godiva"

I rode the train to Mockingbird Station. As I waited for the Red Line train north, I managed to allow a fellow to con me from a bit of money using the "get change" con. I felt embarrassed about it, as I am ordinarily very good about avoiding those things and saying 'no' all the time, but I must have been tired or particularly credulous today.

This afternoon, I walked in Limestone Quarry Park, where things were pleasant but breezy. Later, we walked Beatrice in Glendover Park. Then my wife and I went to dinner at Rockfish Grill, where I had grilled shrimp.

Now we are watching a favorite of mine, the Jason Robards film "A Thousand Clowns",which I like as well as when I first saw it in the 1970s.
